Metal Core Circuit Board (MCPCB)

A Metal Core Circuit Board (MCPCB) is a printed circuit board with a base metal material, intended to dissipate heat away from components that generate heat. Base metals are utilized in the design instead of simply CEM3 and FR4 base materials. The metal plate within a Metal Core Circuit Board can vary in thickness, depending upon the design requirements.

Benefits of a Metal Core Circuit Board (MCPCB)

Heat dissipation, the primary purpose of a Metal Core Circuit Board, helps keep components mounted to the circuit board from overheating. This prevents them from shutting down or functioning at less than optimal performance levels. It also lengthens the life of components.

Heat transfer takes place in a Metal Core Circuit Board (MCPCB) at a rate more than nine times faster than that of a standard FR4 PCB. The conductive cooling properties of a Metal Core Circuit Board (MCPCB) make it an ideal choice for applications where a large amount of heat is generated—especially when traditional cooling, such as fans, will not suffice.

Applications of a Metal Core Circuit Board (MCPCB)

A Metal Core Circuit Board is particularly useful for Solid State Lighting applications, where LED's (Light-Emitting Diodes) and HP LED's (High Power Light-Emitting Diodes) create an amount of heat which must be dissipated.

A Metal Core Circuit Board (MCPCB) can also be ideal in applications such as motion control technology and solar panels or any application where heat-sensitive components must be protected to improve operating efficiency and extend product life.
